Guys, I have decided to break out the Big Oly build from the one that includes Moss Bronco build. doghaus.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=drm&action=display&thread=461Way too much stuff to combine them. So, here is the "oly only" buildup... Oly has been veeeeeeery slow going. The casting of the body panels has been frustrating to say the least. It took about four tries to get a set that was usable. The top one was the first try, the bottom the fourth. The first attempt had the filler hole clog because I was pouring too slowly (the resin I am using starts to solidify very quickly, anywhere from 30 seconds for small parts and maybe a minute for thick parts). Anyway, I should be able to use the front fender flairs on the rear. They are the same in front and back. First order of business is to "channel" the body, after straightening the panels and removing badges/gas caps/door hinges. I found out that the real truck was 3" shorter. The body was cut just below the lip that runs the length. So, the fender flair should start slightly above that lip on the racer. The hood came out very clean only requiring minor tweaking and filling of the vent holes before cutting the hole for the carb to stick up. If anyone has suggestions for which type of glue works best on resin, hey, I am willing to try it. John

Wish i could help ya John i dont have a clue about casting good luck also that was an interesting fact about the body being channeled keep us posted. Have you considered a two part epoxy for bonding the resin parts? Willie

Hey John. I haven't worked with resin parts yet, but I'd give the 2-part epoxy thing a try like Willie suggested. Plus, I'm lovin' that body.

Man, you always pick some great trucks to build. Sofar it looks like its coming along nicely. Keep up the great work. How knows you might be the one that has his own website to sell his parts online. lol. Keep it up

After having great luck with some of the one-piece parts I cast (tannys, 9", Dana 44's, seats, etc.) I had high hopes for the body panels. It is ironic that the transmissions came out great but don't show, and parts that are all show, the body, turned out needing tons of "touch up". Oh well, next time I will cross my toes as well as my fingers! Thanks all. John

The best glue that i have found for resin is normal super glue. Next time you try a resin pour for a big piece,Put the un mixed resin in fridge for a hour or so first.I did this when i poured my resin EB body and it worked for me.

Chris, great tip...I will definitely try it next try. This stuff sets up so fast that lately I have been throwing away more than casting. Have made some progress on the Bronco and thought I would post pix. First the channeling (if that is what you call it) and narrrowing of the body. I needed to reduced by 3 scale inches and found that my table saw blade was about 3 mm. So... And the hood received the same treatment: glued together: After supergluing together (sorry, no photo) I realized the fender flares were no where near what the real truck has so I cut these out so styrene and superglued on: After A LOT of work sanding, shaping, filling, filing the flares look much closer... we will see after I get some primer on. The ends of the body at the bottom required 2-3 days worth of the same treatment to get everything lined up and curved right. Let me know if you have any questions. John

At the same time working on the sides I have been working on the grille. How they both line up is critical to making it look like a hack job... so I spent a lot of time on that also. The grille itself on the toy was nowhere near the same as the real truck. I pretty much threw it out using it only for the shape: It is pretty much on hold until I find lights and the mesh stuff to fill the radiator hole (maybe Home Depot will have some sorta filter materal. Faucet screen looks very close.) The math says the larger light is about a 13-15" light and the smaller about 10". I am guessing the smaller one is actually the factory 8". No idea where to find lights. John

Thanks Jake, I will. To date I have had pretty good luck casting smaller, simpler parts like transmissions, diffs, etc. I think the main reason the body did so badly was two things: #1 the mold was too thin and floppy. and #2 the panels were not good to start with. So, I cheaped out and didn't use enough molding RTV (the stuff is expensive) and should have pulled molds, fixed then re-made the molds... like Jake advised me before. J
