The bronco is looking awsome John. From that pic you could put some wheels on and go find a trail with it. Great job.

Amazing job on the decals and I really like the way you layed the decals out to resize them based off of the scan of the Bronco. Very creative and very easy to do.
Great work!!!!

Again, thanks all. Things are getting slow here again so here is some more stuff I have done recently. I made some time last night to work on the grille. The kit's grille needed tons of work to bring it to something I feel looks real... I did a lot of sanding from the back side in order to thin the plastic enough to punch out the area between the grille slats... much more real than painting between them. Then on to those awful chrome headlights. After trying many things (thick Elmer's glue, paint) on my son's Bronco grill I finally gave up and used real headlights. I printed out real ones on thick paper and glued them into the sockets. It did take a bunch of tries, probably 30 sets of lights, until I found ones that looked both real and correct to the model. I hope this helps other who might be struggling with similar problems. John

Great job building this Bronco! I exoect you are making some progress on it during this period of silence... The gate shifter seems to be the item which has amazed the crew the most, so maybe you could do some sort of tutorial on that? And BTW...As a Tech Inspector, the terminals on the batteries should be insulated to prevent a short when people are working on the truck at pitstops or out on the course...Wrap 'em with some electrical tape or even duct tape to get through Tech this time...for the next race you need to have proper insulators on 'em, tho!...LOL What is the cage structure like under the floor? Pretty visible on this model. Very impressive truck...bring it on out to the desert to test it!

Pretty visible on this model. Very impressive truck...bring it on out to the desert to test it! Richard Richard, you know when I started this I just wanted to build a cage, throw on some decals, and call it "practice". But my anal personality just won't seem to let me. Stuff like the cage under the floor will drive me crazy if I don't add it. To make that worse my skills are getting better and what I did in the beginning of this build is just not good enough now. I am at the point that I am pulling parts off and rebuilding them. Brings me to a question that I was wanting to find out from others... how do you stop? I put in the cage padding last night and woke up at 3am thinking human hair is about the scale for tying the padding on." Uhhhhhh! AMA (Anal Modeler's Anonymous) I need help! Even stranger is that I don't see this "missing" stuff on others' models, only mine. Not only does it not bug me to see a really cleanly built model without spark plug wires but I like the clean, simple look. Help me AMA! John p.s. the battery terminals on the real truck are not covered... please don't nuke Ken next tech. p.s.s. Yes, I will do a tutorial about the shifter asap.

I really like the new grille. The new headlights are great. I have seen them done before as decals from photographs of the real vehicle.
As far as AMA, I think that's why I have two hobby scales to build, If/when I get too involved inthe 1/24-25th scale stuff, I switch over to 1/87th. No matter how hard I try, I can't get scale spark-plug wires, fuel lines or brake lines in 1/87th, which then slows my anal-retentive atitude.
Keep up the work and posting! Richard modeljeeper

A little more progress made, mostly little stuff: window nets, rear light, cage padding, and shovel mounted. Also finished the parts to hold down the spare tire: lug wrench and come-along. And yes, Richard, I just had to get the cage through the floor. A little more work is needed to simulate the welds... I think it looks way to clean as it is. Thanks for watching the progress. John

Again John you are outdoing yourself on this one very nice build if i may offer a small tip a saw somewhere about the welds i saw i think on Hobby Heaven this guy took some Milliput(sp) rolled it out to a very small bead and then took the edge of a dime rolled it along the bead and used it to simulate a weld bead it looked very realistic again the Bronco is looking very very nice Willie
