I usually either kitbash some from another kit, or cut a set free from a body that has them already & use them as-is or modify as needed. The AMT Dodge Ram 50 mini truck for example has separate flares in the kit that fit the AMT Scout pretty well with some mods. I'm looking for a sign board made from urethane that's carveable for just this type of thing. Checked with a few local sign shops, haven't found any yet. What kind of truck/Jeep are you needing them for? My resin caster will be supplying me with separate flares I mastered for my Scrambler (if I ever get the parts from him! ) if that's something you might need (look at my sig pic) just let me know. How does everyone else make theirs?

Here's the signboard I was talking about...High Density Urethane (HDU): www.signfoam.com/product.php?mode=sf3I sent for a free sample kit from the manufacturer, still can't find any locally yet. The kit consists of three 8"x 8"x.750" boards in each of the three densities. You can request a sample kit online, came in a few days! building a flare for the scout...first, a 2" holesaw used to get started...I used the most dense (18): rough shaping to fit body curvature... I left this thing big for as long as possible, to make it easier to handle! razor saw cuts it like butter! I used a coping saw to cut out the inner portion... kinda fragile at this point & harder to shape, but not terribly so... I think it's still a bit too big looking, but it's close. I'll try sealing a scrap piece with primer & see if it attacks the urethane...may have to use something else to seal up the open cells? I'll report my findings. All in all, this stuff opens up new possibilities. Very easy to cut, shape, carve, whatever you need! Now to find a local supplier that carries thinner sheets & will sell scraps!

Wow! perfect! Gotta try this one. And if you don't find a way to fill in the "holes" it would almost look like Rhino-lining. John

You know you should not show us stuff like this, we might want another hobby. Seriously awesome work. Too bad some of the photos were missing. John

Yeah I noticed that, and so did some others on the RC site...he said he went thru & fixed some, hopefully he'll get all of them back, it's nice to see how those killer trucks went together. I've never built anything bigger than 1/24 scale, most of those RC scalers are 1/10 or 1/8 scale. I don't know if it would be easier to build & detail in large scale or not?
