I have been working on my Scout for the CBP and am making some decent headway. The Scout has a bobbed rear end, no roof, and no doors. My purpose for this post is to get some opinions on which direction to go in the build regarding the tub and body mating. Choice 1: Mate the body and tub/chassis together, build door jams, rocker jams, and clean up all joint seams between the two pieces (problem...masking inside and outside for paint sessions). Choice 2: Keep the body and tub/chassis seperate until after paint, door jams and rocker jams would be built to the body (problem...getting a good clean mating between the two with little to no gaps or unsightly seams).

Mike, couldn't you engineer it so the door jambs & rockers be built onto the body, then after paint the chassis/interior tub be brought in underneath, kinda like the kit is designed? Maybe even have the interior tub split down the middle for ease of entry, then reattached & covered inside by a custom console?

Trailbound i would go with choice 1 thats what i will be doing with both builds im just gonna have to do some tricky taping to mask off those places Willie

Thanks for the replies. Jeff, your suggestion of placing the body over the tub is what I would be doing, the problem is the fit of the body to the tub on from the top view. With the roof you don't really see the gap between the body and tub, but with the roof cut off you do. I have built the tub out, and the body in to fix most of it, but it still isnt quite perfect and don't know if it would be until I used putty (obviously before paint). I looked at it again this morning and think I am going with what wtsf150 said. The masking will suck, but at least the fit and finish will be right. Figure I will paint the inside and underneath black first, then do the body color, so that way if there is any "leakage" it can be touched up with a little black paint.

How much of a 'bob' did you do on the rear? Kinda like this (photo chopped): I have not seen an actual 'bobbed' Scout before, so I was thinking of doing the same thing, but I have another idea too.

That is about how much I bobbed off the back. I hope to get some pics up tomorrow night after I get the door jams all together. I am also in the middle turning the kit v8 into the slant 4 196 engine. I think I have it pretty close.
