Has anyone tried using this tire from the Tamiya 1/32 motorized snap kits? They look good, are soft rubber, & have a nice tread pattern. But...no inside sidewall! They use the wheel assy. as the inner sidewall, looks lame. Dimensions are as follows: overall height...36mm / wheel hole diameter...17mm / tread width...15mm / overall width...17mm This might be a good candidate for a resin cast, build an inner sidewall & go for it. What does everyone think?

Hey Jeff, looks promising to me. What does the inside of the wheel look like?

I'll take a few pics of the Tamiya wheel, and a few with different kit wheels in the tire. I'll also do a mock-up on a 4 X 4 and post.

Hey, I just realized I got info from a guy that already casts these tires. It appears that he spliced two tires together to make it a full sidewall on the inside (but I have not asked him ). public.fotki.com/cnaind/truck-tires--wheels/off-road--pickup-tires/He says he casts in rubber and can make the wheel diameter any size as he adds an insert to wheel size. Alan Raab/Ma's Resin canind@ptd.net or idsaw@ptd.netAs usual, not tried or seen his work so this is not an endorsement. John

I saw somewhere on the site that his tires run $1 or $1.25 each. And the flame tires are really different. Wonder how he does it. John

I'll be ordering a set or two as well... here's a quick mock-up on an old J10 glue bomb: and one of the Tamiya rim that forms the inner sidewall, and a couple of different rims to see how they look. I think these tires will be nice, intermediate sized ones for those trucks that look like lifted, street-driven rigs. Thanks for the info, John!

I ordered two sets of the soft rubber BFGs from Alan today...plus a set of 208 resin nuts & bolts. All for $15 shipped...which I think is a pretty good deal nowadays!
I'll post pics once I get 'em! ;D

John I'm thinking he molds a round "tire" with a raised flame pattern, then molds rubber or black resin around that, then clean up consists of sanding the rubber away from the flames??? Maybe? Kinda like the buttons inside your car that have the "feel" of soft plastic and an opaque number, letter, or word that the lights behind only light up the opaque part. Its a 2 step process as well.

Jeff, post as soon as you can. I'm very curious. And $15 is reasonable indeed.

I guess someone needs to order (or at least ask about) the flame tires too to find out how they are made. Sounds like you are on the right track with the "button" design for the flames, certainly looks like it (tan resin and black rubber). I have been told by a friend that they are copied from another kit, not totally custom-made. The friend say he thought they originally came in a Dodge sidewinder truck kit. John

That's a bargain in today's world gents! Now if we can get Alan to do more of the things we need...don't be afraid to order anything from him. If you're not happy with it, I'll buy it from you! ;D

That is awesome to know! I have been debating if I should order a set too (need tires for Oly) and I will be needing bolts soon. Do you get the impression that the "rubber" can be sanded? I would want to take the sidewall text off. John p.s. of course I will need measurements when you get time.
