One general rule that I have seen with 99% of CBPs is that it is to be a new project (or barely started WIP from before), not a completed project that someone takes a pic and posts of. The idea is to get to the bench, do some building, actually finish a project, and most of all have fun.

Well if the CBP is going to go with the Scout platform, I think I might get 2 birds with one stone. The NNL East is coming up in April of 2010 and their build theme is any vehicle from the 1980s (which my brother and I had talked about doing some trucks for). Seeing how the Scout's final year was 1980, I could just slide it in. Looks to me as if the only real difference in the 1980 Scout and the AMT model is the grill/head lights, which I think I could fairly easily modify.

Do you guys still want to do a Scout? It's not in production any longer, but easily obtained. That was why I originally said in current production, so some that didn't have the kit we all agreed to didn't have to pay thru the nose from eBay or a collector, etc. We can still do a poll, here's the small list of truck kits in current production:
1:25 '65 Chevy Stepside Pickup 2N1 Product ID : 85-7210
1:25 '50 Ford Pick-Up 2 'n 1 Product ID : 85-7203
1:25 '41 Chevy Pick-Up 2 'n 1 Product ID : 85-7202
1:25 '99 Chevy Silverado Custom Pickup Product ID : 85-7200
1:25 Easy Kit Hummer H1(snap kit) Product ID : 85-1938
Paddy Wagon Willys Panel Van Super Snap Item No: MPC704 Release Date: April 2009
1955 Chevy Cameo Item No: AMT633 Release Date: July 2009
USA-1 Monster Truck Item No: AMT632 Release Date: July 2009
This is all I could find, according to manufacturer's sites, but I'm sure there are others, like the Revell CJ-7 kit that was just recently discontinued, still found on store shelves(I just picked up yet another at Hobby Lobby a few days ago). I do like the idea of a Scout though...

I for one think the Scout is the best choice as I said before because of it being a fairly nuetral vehicle. No one seems to think they are "cheating" on their Ford or Chevy with a Scout.

Ahhh, a person that must own a Ford or Chevy. LOL The first thing I thought of when we were discussing other trucks was "oh, man, can I really build a Chevy?" ;D Seriously, I think we all agree that a Scout is the perfect truck. I have always wanted to build one and my son will be getting one from "Santa" this year. We both can work on our trucks at the same time. And do we agree, anything goes? It would be cool if everyone built a different style of truck: a crawler, a stocker, a mud truck, a racer, etc. That way we have the most kinds of trucks at the end. But I don't have any guesses how to accomplish that so I suppose that out. John

I am a Jeep guy, I like both Chevy and Ford and am not a diehard of either. My Scout will definately be more of a NorthEast style trail rig.

Hey all. Thanks for headin' down a different road. I think the Scout sounds good. One question though...I have a Scout that I started a ways back-a trail rig (got some WIPs here somewhere). I re-did the interior bucket and recently the frame went south due to snappage. So, it's still in it's infancy. Have done nothin' to it in months. Will it be useable for the CBP?

Just a minor update on the trail rig. The frame & interior were scratched. I had a susp. set-up done, but changed my mind mid-stream. More updates soon. Wow Larry, nice work as usual! Maybe once we all start on ours, you can give us a weeks head start or so... ;D

I agree, let's say yes and yours be the starting truck for the CBP. Should I start an "official" Scout CBP thread? John

Hey all. Jeff, John...thank you for the nod on the Scout's build state. Like I said, that frame has bit the dust, so I'm startin' another. And "thumbs up" John on the new thread.

TB, Once in awhile, on ebay you can find the 1979 Scout SSII which was a rare variation of the Ertl kit. It has the correct grille for a 1980 version. They can be spendy, but the last one sold for only $35 (typically $50-70). It's an interesting kit with different wheels, accessories and the obvious body modifications, top and doors removed. I have two of the kits, one still sealed. I'll have to see if I can mold the grille in resin if you, or anyone, is interested in updating the current AMT/Ertl/RC2/Round2 kit.

Are you going to build with us Richard?

I would definately be interested in a 1980 grill. I dont think it would take all that much to update the kit grill as much of the structure is the same, but a resin would definately be easier.
