I am gathering the parts and info I need to start a new project. I will be using Revell's 76 Chevy p/u. The plan is to make a "steel" bed designed for clearance. I would also like to remove the doors and narrow the front end...which is where my big question comes from. Have any of you tried narrowing the nose of a truck like this? Any suggestions, specifically with retaining some sort of structure with the body (especially with the doors removed). What is the key to making lifted leaf springs? Will rolling styrene strips across a bottle of some sort be enough for it to keep its shape, or do you need a little heat to create a new memory for the plastic? I am also looking to track down some D60 axles and transfer cases. I know Jake use to do some resin (according to his site he has paused on that), is there anyone else that is recreating these parts? This will be my first project back at the bench since the summer, and my first non short track race car in nearly 3 or 4 years, so I have some catching up to do.

Trailbound, I have a Dana 60 that I am making copies for Big Ed (Larry). I should have done it long ago so maybe I should do it soon. Give me a few days and I will try to get some made. John

I'll bet if you start off by narrowing the core support, scoring the backs of the fenders where they meet the cab, then bending them in slowly to meet the newly narrowed rad support, everything would work out nicely. Then remove the doors, after the strength is returned. Might be better off removing fenders completely too, after beefing up the cab structure. The kit you're talking about, is it the same as the 1/24 scale monogram stepside? If so, installing the rear cab wall will do alot to strengthen the thing too, prior to cutting/modding.
Show us a pic of what you're working with before you start!
