Hey Rand your off to a great start if i may suggest if you dont want the leaf spring setup search the net for reference pics of four link set ups these are more common in crawlers as for the shock locations i usually just run the shock straight up and down with the center of the tire some put a slight lean to the center of the ride but thats why i always try to look at as many pics as i can and by all means please feel free to ask any questions here we all give good advise i'm sure others will chime in on this again your off to a nice start Willie

Hey Randy, Like Willie said, Great Start ! Is the body a fabrication job? It has a nice style to it.

Dude, very cool and unique rig! I was planning to do the same. The rear susspension sits too far forwards. I'd also change the axles for more narrow ones and it would look better with the SoReal bogger wheels/tires.
Keep it up, not many other projects are underway! Richard O. modeljeeper

thanks for the encouragement,I will be using the so real tires and rims. I started this thing 3 or 4 years ago before I discovered so real and after spending $35 on a diecast discovered you can buy the tires seperatley.most of the parts came from the mad mudder,a nascar truck and the hombre version of the commando.if memory serves the body was shortened in the rear ,the quarters were sucked in a little ,doors cut out and interior floor attached to body,I also added sheet styrene inside the quarters .I'm pleased with the body and the shape of the rollcage.where I ran into problemswas tying the cage in with the chassis and the leafs were just to big. the intention was a home built trail rider nothing to fancy which is why I tried the leafs well they don't work so I guess a link set up is the way to go but then do I stop there or do I go all the way tube chassis and move the engine out back and figure out one of those fancy front suspensions like the corr trucks.or does that not make sense with the stock floor boards ?I just don't know

Hey Randy, I just came across a posting of photos, diagrams and tech info for a 4-link. www.avalancheengineering.com/july2003.htmMight help in your decision about getting rid of the rear leaf suspension. John

thanks John I have already lopped off the leafs in favor of 4 link that article is perfect for me .I'm just glad it's a model and not the real thing because that seems like alot of math.I am pretty sure I can fake my way through the link setup .in looking at some pictures my next question is how do you plum a hydraulic steering setup? and will bigjeepz resin be back anytime soon?

I am rebuilding the cage ,same basic shape but with more of a plan . I've decided to scratch build the whole chassis got the idea from an episode of extreme 4x4 they were working on an s 10 the way they fabricated the chassis seems about right for the direction I'm going.any suggestions on kit sources for decent difs the ones I have are from the mad mudder and I don't like the hollowed top side of these .

I will be going with a link set up I have the back mostly figured out the front is now going to be the tough part I just can't ever seem to find the right pics of these I liked the front setup shown in the avalanche article from a post or two ago but all the steering linkages and brakes will slow me down because i just don't know where all this stuff attaches or goes to. I still need to know what to use for the differentials/axles.
