I just saw Willie's Bronco and that got me thinking. Maybe we can do a Group Build of our 1:1 trucks. Thoughts? John

I think that would be cool. I have kits of all of my trucks just havent started any of them yet that might actually get me started on one

So we are all agreed (and inspired). The Community Build will be our 1:1 truck. Does something like March 1 for a final date sound good?
I think we should start two other threads: one with the building process and one (later) with the final models. I think the build thread should have each of us post a photo of the 1:1 truck you are planning to build and a photo of the kit used as our first post. Then go from there.

Since I've never done one of these community builds or read up on one, what guidelines do we go by?
For example, our vehicle...do we build it in it's current state, or what we want it to look like when we get the time & money to restore it?
Only kit parts that are in the box, or can we kitbash & scratchbuild?

I've never done one either but agree that we need some rules. My vote is to build the current 1:1 (or very recent). How about we say both model and 1:1 have to look the same March 1. That way if you are almost done with a lift then build the model to have the lift. But the exception would be if someone just wrecked their truck, they can build the way it was before.
And vote number two would be to say everything goes to get the job done. There are so few model trucks out there that I believe that many, if not all of us, will have to convert a kit to another year/bodystyle.
Thoughts? John

Just my 2 cents on this from my experience of running about a half dozen CBPs...be sure that the build theme caters to the members on the forum and has stamina. I have seen CBPs or similiar building topics that guys jump on because it sounds good and when they start getting into the project they find it to be too challenging or no longer interesting. I have not been a very active member on this forum and nor do I know if I will have time to get another build in. With that said let me just share that for me building one of my past 1:1s would be a topic I would stall out on. I have had several Jeep's and fullsizes, but none of which I would want to model as they were relatively tame and more weekend warriors, weekly commuters. For me I like to try and build things that I probably would not have the time, money, or skill to build in 1:1. I would easily see myself wanting to tweak this or tweak that even if trying to replicate a 1:1...I like my freedom in a build with the exception of a few specific builds I want to do. That is just my thought for what its worth...if it is even worth 2 cents. I would suggest running a poll with a couple of theme ideas, you might be surprised what gets the big votes. Regardless, I look forward to seeing some more activity on this board and some great builds.

Hey all. I am truck-less , so I will watch with great enthusiasm as this comes together. I can't wait to see all the 1:1s.

Hey, since Larry is "truck-less" LOL, and a few members don't have kits of their 1:1, let's go about this in a different way...let's pick a kit that is currently in production (not that many!) and all of us (including Larry ) build our interpretation of a cool rig. I think it'd be cool to see what everyone comes up with! Anything goes as long as the vehicle can be used off-road...weekend warrior, prerunner, tuber, anything as long as it uses the kit as a basis. Thoughts?

Definatey a more appealing idea to me. If I can dig up a Scout (or whatever the choosen vehicle is) I think I can get something done by March. I personally think the Scout would be a good idea as it is a pretty nuetral style of vehicle compared to the die hard Ford, Chevy, etc. guys.
