Hey John, I sanded the tread on one to see how the rubber reacted...first with 150 grit, then 280, then wet sanded with 600. Still has "fuzzies"! Maybe since you won't have any sharp edges after the lettering is gone, they would smooth out OK? Here's the specs: O.D. = 1.437" I.D. = .812" overall width = .593" treadwidth = .531" Left tire is sanded... I looked at your Oly reference pics again, this tire looks much more like the Firestones that are pictured, but may be too small? These are rubber also, as found in the Revell Jeep Honcho "dude" pickup kit. Really nice tires! O.D. = 1.281" I.D. = .593" overall width = .500" treadwidth = .406" Inner sidewall would look good with Firestone dry transfers...

Jeff, great info, very helpful. The Honcho tires look very close with some mods. I still need to do some math to see if the size is near. Then I gotta find a set.
Side note about the Tamiya tires. I remember the caster saying that he could make the tires with different wheel sizes (using inserts). I wonder if he would do a special order using resin rather than rubber. That way removing sidewall lettering and reducing the tread would be easy. I will email him later today. Thanks again, John

Glad to help John! Yeah, Alan does the mud-terrains in resin also...$2/pair. Not sure if they are black resin or not, email him, he's easy to get ahold of & replies quickly.
If those Revell rubber tires can work for Oly, I'm sure Revell used them in other kits as well, but if you find a "dude" kit & don't want the pickup parts, I'll buy the remains of it from you as you can never have too many FSJeep parts, in scale or 1:1...I have a 1974 J20 pickup that I'll replicate someday ;D

I hear you. Even if one doesn't like Jeeps, you will like a J truck!
I will let everyone know what he says. John

The rubber Goodyear tire was only available in the pre-1996 reissued Honcho kits (Racer, Camper and 1980ish black kits). The tire was also found in the Revell Datsun Kingcab 4x4, but thats all I've found.

Thanks Richard. I will start hunting. Does anybody has a set they are willing to part with? John

Sorry to butt in. I am pretty sure I have the Datsun kingcab kit. It will take a bit to look through the model room. I can if you would like though. I also have the Jeep J truck kit. It is the pink poison though. Will that work? Let me know.

Unfortunately, the 1996 reissue of the Honcho in black and the "Pink Poison" have revised wheels to fit the standard Monogram/Revell hard rubber Goodyear Wranglers as in the CJ-7 kits.

Yeah Modeljeeper. Your dead on. Found both kits today and the Jeep's tires are much harder and more generic looking then the Datsun's tires. The datsun's tires are alot softer than the jeep's. Coopdad let me know man. I can send the datsun's tires to you. You need the wheels too? I bought all of Dougs collection from him just so I now it is safe. I think it is my duty to help out you guys like he did. I have a ton of other wheels and tire combos too. Including a bunch of resin stuff. Some of them are Jakes work too. Let me know and I will get these out to ya.

Smash, Thanks for the great offer. I will PM you.
Great to hear that Doug's hard work is not going to end up in a yardsale or even the dump. Coming across his models was my first inspiration for getting back into modeling again.
Did this site also come with the models and parts (assuming he is the owner)? John

No problem John. Just shoot me the info through message and I will get them heading your way. Let me know if you need the wheels too.
Your right when Doug came to me about his models and such I knew I had to jump on the offer. Doug is the same inspiration for me he is for alot of people. To own his collection of stuff is like owning a instrument that your favorite musician owned and played and you have the chance to own it! JUST DONT PASS THAT UP. I was also afraid what would happen to his collection if I didn't. I knew "Mama Bear" would freak but would get over it. She did both. Just I have to sell some of my stuff to make room for his. The model room now consists of two rooms. LOL!
This site??? Hey now we didn't agree on that! Darn you Doug!!!! No, No, Do correct me if I am wrong but I think he was only a moderater here, but could be wrong. I do know he had a big part getting this site started but I think it is Jakes Baby. Like I said. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I am checking out his section "Parts are parts wherever Doug finds them". Just to keep you all supplied if need be. Like I said, Doug helped me so much. I feel I need to do the same for other members. Just message me when your ready and will ship out the tires and wheels if that is what you need too.

Good to hear someone who cares has his stuff. Sometime when you are bored, would you mind photographing all the vehicles and posting them on the site somewhere? I think some of the new folks here will be just as inspired as we were/are.
I was never really clear who actually set up this site. I was under the impression it was Doug or someone else less active than Jake when he was able to build. Maybe Jake would be able to tell us. John

Let me make it clear that Doug and I both agreed that he should keep his builds. Doug has his high end builds still. They are still in the case in his work area. I only have a few of his "so called" (yeah right) not so good builds. Even his not so good builds to him are killer to me!!! What I do have all of is his Collection of Boxed models, supplies, parts, started projects and other misc. Just so we are clear.LOL! I will post a link to his photobucket though for other new modelers/members inspiration.
